According to Toronto police, shots were fired at the complex at 9 Driftwood Avenue – near Jane Street and Finch Avenue W. – around 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

When officers arrived at the complex, they found two men with gunshot wounds in a courtyard.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the other died later in hospital.

The victims have since been identified as Ibrahim Handlele, 26, and Deshawn Walters, 27.

As the Toronto Sun previously reported, Ibrahim Handule was the brother of 23-year-old Farah Hersi Handule, who was wanted for a 2017 murder in Ottawa after she was gunned down in Calgary in 2019.

Her brother, Abdulkadir Handule, was 27 when he was convicted in British Columbia in June 2023 of false imprisonment in connection with a 2019 kidnapping. At the time, he was already serving a life sentence for the fatal shootings of Jahvante Smart (21), aka Smoke Dawg, and Ernest Modekwe (28), aka Koba Prime, in Toronto's entertainment district in 2018.

At least two of the Handule brothers were once aspiring rappers – Abdulkadir Handule performed under the stage name 21 Neat and Farah Hersi Handule was known as 22 Filthy.

The second victim of the Driftwood shooting, 27-year-old Deshawn Walters, was an alleged member of the Young Buck Killas street gang when he was charged with kidnapping and torturing two teenagers in 2016. The outcome of that charge is unclear, but Walters was also caught up in a gun trafficking raid that same year.

On Thursday, investigators released photos of a suspect in the Driftwood double murder in the hopes that citizens could help identify the man.
