Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo elected President of National Rifle Association of India

The new President, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, was elected for a term of 12 months.

Shri. Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo was elected as the new President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) after defeating Shri. VK Dhall by 36 votes to 21 in the Presidential Elections held at the Constitution Club of India on September 21. The elections were conducted under the supervision of Shri. Anil Dev Singh, (retired) Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, who also acted as the Returning Officer.

A general meeting of the NRAI was specially convened to conduct the elections. 57 of the 67 eligible members turned up to cast their votes. The vote was by secret ballot. Shri Singh Deo was elected for a term of 12 months.

Visibly pleased with the outcome, Shri Singh Deo outlined his priorities after the results were announced, saying, “It was a wonderful example of a democratic election. I am grateful to all members for coming to show their support. We intend to advance the shooting sport.”

“My priority would be to ensure that new high performance centres are created, that the NRAI develops new programmes to promote the shooting sport, including courses on governance and ethics, and that the shooting sport spreads both at the grassroots and at the top of the competitive sport.”

Full of energy despite his defeat, Shri VK Dhall said, “It was a hard-fought election. I raised some issues that needed to be raised. There were many anomalies, things that were not right. I raised the issues, many friends supported me and stood by me. I fought hard and congratulate the winner.”

The new NRAI President's immediate responsibility will be to ensure the smooth running of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Finals, the year-end international shooting showdown between the world's best shooters, scheduled to be held at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi from October 13 to 18.
