Villanova University police are investigating after a student reported she was raped by an Uber driver in a campus dormitory, the university said Friday.

According to David Tedjeske, Villanova's Director of Public Safety and Police Chief, the sexual assault occurred on the night of last Friday into Saturday, September 13/14.

On Friday afternoon, the Villanova University student said the Uber driver dropped her off at the Commons dorm complex and then went into the dorm, where he sexually assaulted her.

The student was provided with supportive resources and services, Tedjeske's statement said.

Villanova police said they have identified and contacted the Uber driver accused of sexually assaulting the student. The driver is prohibited from entering Villanova campus while the assault is investigated, university police said.

According to Villanova police, the sexual assault was also reported to Uber.

In a statement, the ride-sharing app said that the company had since banned the driver from driving and was assisting the authorities in their investigation.

“Sexual harassment is a devastating crime that has no place in our society. We are appalled by what was described and immediately suspended the driver's license when it was reported to us. We will assist law enforcement where we can,” an Uber spokesperson told CBS News Philadelphia.

In Tedjeske's statement, Villanova condemned the sexual assault and said it will not be tolerated at the university, adding that resources are available online to prevent and respond to sexual misconduct.

Villanova University Police are currently investigating. It is currently unclear if the driver has been charged or arrested by police.
