Sri Lanka Election Results 2024, LIVE Updates: Sri Lankans went to the polls on Saturday to elect the country's 10th president, the first election since the devastating economic crisis in 2022 that led to a loan default.

Incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who replaced Rajapaksa and is working to revive the Sri Lankan economy, is running for re-election against Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and Sajith Premadasa of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) party.

Voter turnout was nearly 70 percent an hour before polls closed at 4 p.m. (10:30 GMT), an election commission official said, citing preliminary figures.

The counting of votes in the elections in Sri Lanka, in which the 10th president of the country of 22 million inhabitants will be elected, begins at 6 p.m.
