Elderly man dead, four injured after BMW collides with autorickshaw in Delhi – India TV

In an unfortunate incident, a 63-year-old man died and four others were injured when the autorickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a BMW in central Delhi's Tilak Marg, police said on Saturday.

The police official said the incident occurred on September 12 at around 5 am when Neeraj Kumar along with his father Sachhidanada, wife Kumari Salma and two sons Yashraj and Hansraj were returning home from New Delhi Railway Station in an autorickshaw.

BMW ran through traffic light

Giving details of the accident, police said that the accident occurred when the car reached the traffic signal at the intersection of Sikandra and Mathura Roads. A BMW car crashed into their vehicle. The impact caused it to overturn. According to an FIR filed in the matter, the BMW car overshot the traffic signal and crashed into their autorickshaw.

The police official said that all five passengers of the rickshaw were injured in the accident, but the driver escaped unhurt and informed the police about the accident. Sachidanad and his grandson Yasraj (8) sustained serious injuries and were admitted to LNJP Hospital, where Sachidanad succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Friday, the official said.

Driver identified, arrest imminent

Police have identified the driver of the BMW bearing the registration number of Himachal Pradesh and officials said he would be arrested soon. A case under sections 281 (reckless driving) and 125 (a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS has been registered at Tilak Marg police station and further investigation has been initiated.
