Shortly after the violent crime, a suspect was taken into custody. The 20-year-old was already charged with two grievous bodily harm last year, in which a knife was also allegedly used, police and prosecutors said.

After attack in Pforzheim: Suspected attackers arrested

The suspect is said to have been walking with two other men on Sunday night and then tried several times to injure another man with a knife. However, he was able to avoid the attack. His companions are said to have pulled the suspected attacker away and left with him. Police arrested the trio after an immediate manhunt in a nearby café.

The 21-year-old victim had previously stopped his car at a traffic light. The three alleged attackers are said to have first hit the car. After the driver got out, they are said to have punched him in the face and injured him. The youngest of the suspects is said to have then attacked him with a knife.

The motive was initially unclear. According to initial findings, there was no known previous connection between the contracting parties, a spokesman for the public prosecutor's office said.
