What is “Disney High” about?

According to the book publisher Macmillan, the premise of the book is as follows:

“For many kids growing up in the 2000s, there was no more important cultural benchmark than the Disney Channel, the most-watched prime-time cable channel. Today it is perhaps best known for introducing the world to talent such as Hilary Duff, Raven-Symoné, Zac Efron, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato and Zendaya.

It wasn't always destined for greatness: When the Disney Channel launched in 1983, it was a forgotten stepchild of the Walt Disney Company, forever overshadowed by Disney's more profitable films and theme parks. But after the stars of the Mickey Mouse Club revival – including Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and Ryan Gosling – slipped away, the Disney Channel reinvented itself as an influential network for teens. By the new millennium, it was producing billions of dollars worth of original content and stars whose careers were almost entirely controlled by the corporation. Suddenly, everyone wanted a piece of the pie – and there were constant clashes between studio, network, labels and creatives as the Disney Channel became a pressure cooker of perfection for its stars.

From personal feuds and on-set disasters to national hype and the realities of child stardom, culture journalist Ashley Spencer delivers the inside scoop on the heyday of the House of Mouse television series, plus hundreds of new exclusive interviews with former Disney executives, creatives and celebrities to explore the highs, lows and everything in between.”
