Terror in Greenspoint: Houston police say teenager robs and sexually abuses women in apartment complexes

Houston police are intensifying their search for a juvenile suspect accused of two sex offenses and robberies in the Greenspoint neighborhood.

The attacks occurred on Sept. 9 and Sept. 12 at Life at Brighton Estates in the 100 block of Aldine Bender Road and at Brittmore Apartments in the 16000 block of Imperial Valley. The complexes are separated by a single fence. In both cases, police say, the suspect, believed to be between 17 and 19 years old, approached the female victims, pulled out a gun, demanded their belongings and sexually assaulted them. Investigators say one woman was put in a headlock by the teen and nearly lost consciousness.

HPD releases video of alleged juvenile suspect in two separate robberies and sexual assaults in the Greenspoint area.

Neighbors in the area are outraged and concerned about the safety of their community following these incidents. Surveillance footage of the suspect was released and led to some residents recognizing him as someone who may live nearby.

“He's sick, man. He's sick,” said local resident John Taylor. “He's got to be caught. Wherever he is. Somebody's got to get him.”

“I heard a loud scream. We usually hear loud noises all the time, so I kind of ignored it,” said a neighbor who lives in Brittmore. “We usually just mind our own business here, but looking back, I wish I had investigated.”

The same neighbor said that a few minutes later another male neighbor tried to intervene.

“The guy asked him, 'Hey, what are you doing?' He said, 'I'm fucking her.' The guy turned around, pointed a gun at him and ran away,” the man said.

Neighbors in Brittmore are now handing out flyers to each other to encourage them to be vigilant and safe.

Residents of the Brighton Apartments said they received a notice from their leasing office, but it only mentioned one incident, not a reference to a sexual assault. One woman said she recently saw him jumping the fence between apartment complexes and hopes he gets caught.

“I know there's a lot going on, but it has to stop at some point. Why attack older people?” asks Keisha.

According to police, the teenager is about 5'9″ tall. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that helps police find him.

If you have information that could lead to an arrest, contact HPD or Crime Stoppers.
