Pontiac man kills neighbor and abuses his wife and daughter

PONTIAC, Mich. (WXYZ) – A 50-year-old Pontiac man is facing 11 felony charges after he is accused of stabbing his neighbor in his driveway, then entering the man's home and sexually assaulting his wife and daughter.

Timothy Ernest Legard is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping, three counts of first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, two counts of assault with intent to penetrate, and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon (aggravated assault).

“This was an absolutely brutal and horrific attack on a family,” Oakland County District Attorney Karen McDonald said in a news release. “First-degree murder, first-degree sexual abuse and kidnapping are crimes punishable by life in prison, and they are the most serious charges my office has brought. We will vigorously fight for justice for this family and protect the community from violent criminals.”

According to prosecutors, Legard went to the victims' home on Ypsilanti Avenue around 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, and met the 41-year-old man outside while his wife was helping their daughter get ready for school.

A short time later, he was accused of breaking into the house and sexually abusing the mother and daughter. The two fled to another neighbor's house and called 911.

The police found the man's body in the driveway with a stab wound to the chest.

Officers found Legard down the street near the corner of Walton and Baldwin and took him into custody. He remains in the Oakland County Jail and is expected to be arraigned this weekend.
