Man commits suicide after killing his wife

In a devastating turn of events, a 44-year-old man named Zibusiso Mhlanga is said to have committed suicide after allegedly murdering his 19-year-old wife, Lydia Mlalazi. The incident occurred on 16 September 2024 in Siantungwana 4 Village Rural Municipality in Sikomena, Dobola.

Details of the tragedy

According to information released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on its official X-Account (formerly Twitter), Mhlanga is said to have attacked his wife with a stone. The reasons for the violent act are currently unclear.

Following the brutal attack, Mlalazi was rushed to a nearby medical facility in Lusulu. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead on arrival, leaving the community shocked and heartbroken over the senseless loss of a young life.

After the fatal attack on his wife, Mhlanga reportedly ended his life by hanging. His actions have left many stunned, as the incident marks a tragic end for both parties involved.

Zimbabwean authorities have launched an official investigation into the circumstances of the murder and subsequent suicide. Law enforcement agencies are currently working to gather more information and have expressed concern about increasing cases of domestic violence with tragic consequences.

In its statement, the ZRP encouraged the public to seek help in domestic conflicts rather than resorting to violence, stressing the importance of using available resources and mediation to resolve conflicts without resorting to harmful behaviour.
