Man charged in alleged shooting and wounding of his stepdaughter in Redford Township

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Michigan. – The man accused of accidentally shooting and wounding his stepdaughter on Tuesday was arraigned on Friday.

The incident occurred on September 17 at around 7 p.m. in Lexington near 8 Mile Road.

Redford Township Police Chief Jennifer Mansfield said there was an assault between two adults in which a gun was drawn. One of the adults involved in the alleged assault was Christopher Delance Harris.

During the attack, one shot was fired, hitting Harris' 13-year-old stepdaughter.

Harris fled the scene but was later arrested by police two blocks away. Two weapons were found during the arrest.

The teenager was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg and is expected to recover.

According to Police Chief Mansfield, the teenager was not the intended target of the shooting and the attack was not a domestic incident.

Redford Township police said Harris was arraigned in 17th District Court on Sept. 20. He has a warrant out for his arrest on 12 counts. His bail was set at $500,000 and he will be tethered by GPS remote.
