Since the “Starnacht” cannot take place due to the flooding, MDR and SWR have decided to do a new episode of Andy Borg’s “Schlager-Spaß”. Surprisingly, this will now run parallel to the “Giovanni Zarrella Show”.

Baden-Baden – Public broadcasters usually avoid having their top hit show stars compete against each other. Just imagine if music-loving TV viewers had to choose between ARD hit king Florian Silbereisen (43) and the “Giovanni Zarrella Show” (ZDF) on Saturday evening. But that is exactly the fate that now awaits one of their esteemed colleagues: Andy Borg (63).

New “Schlager-Fun with Andy Borg” runs parallel to “Giovanni Zarrella Show”

His “Schlager-Spaß” is one of the most popular formats in the third channels – so it's no wonder that the leading SWR, but also the MDR, are only too happy to rely on the 63-year-old presenter. He has a particularly difficult task ahead of him on Saturday (21 September) from 8:15 p.m. Because the “Starnacht aus der Wachau” was canceled without replacement due to the flooding, SWR and Co. need a replacement as soon as possible.

That's why a new edition of “Schlager-Spaß mit Andy Borg” was quickly produced, as the SWR confirmed in response to an IPPEN.MEDIA request. The new show, which has already been recorded, will run parallel to the “Giovanni Zarrella Show” on ZDF. Schlager fans are literally spoiled for choice. With guests such as the Kastelruther Spatzen, Semino Rossi, Mara Kayser, the Fetzig'n from Zillertal, Sigrid & Marina, Teddy and the Lollipops, Martin Domingos, Damiano Maiolini and the Rheinauer Seebären, this edition also promises plenty of fun.

Andy Borg has to face Giovanni Zarrella and his stars – SWR sees no problem in this

The “Giovanni Zarrella Show” features a number of more famous artists (including Matthias Reim, Maite Kelly, Howard Carpendale and Italian superstar Gianna Nannini), but it is often the smaller, more approachable acts that win over the audience. As a result, many will probably be undecided until the very end whether they will switch to Giovanni Zarrella's (46) star-studded, glossy show or Andy Borg's cozy, rustic wine bar.

The SWR does not see any problems with this overlap: “Andy Borg has his regular audience. “The 'Schlager-Spaß mit Andy Borg' goes in a completely different direction than 'Die Giovanni Zarrella Show',” a spokesperson said when asked. Viewers who want to see both shows can of course access the show they missed in the respective media library. Incidentally, nothing will change in the “Schlager-Spaß” edition announced for October 3rd – according to SWR, this will also be a new episode. The broadcaster had already explained in the spring why the “Schlager-Spaß mit Andy Borg” keeps getting cancelled spontaneously.
