Police take statement from three Delhi University students about SUV accident in which one died

New Delhi: A day after a 19-year-old Delhi University student died when his SUV crashed into a guardrail near Rajghat at high speed, police on Friday recorded statements of three of his friends.

Aishwarya Pandey, a first-year BA student at Deshbandhu College, was returning from his birthday party at a pub in Gurugram with his four friends early on Thursday morning.

The Hyundai Venue, driven by his girlfriend Aishwarya Mishra at high speed, hit a guardrail on a stretch between Shanti Van red light and Geeta Colony in Kotwali district, piercing the vehicle.

Police on Friday recorded statements of his three other friends – Keshav Kumar, Ujjwal and Krishna – who were in the car that Pandey had rented for one night for Rs 15,000.

The police also contacted the car owner and took his statement.

In the accident, Pandey and Mishra were seriously injured, while their three other friends were discharged after treatment on Thursday. While undergoing treatment at LNJP Hospital, Pandey died in the evening.

On Friday, Pandey's body was handed over to his maternal uncle and aunt after the post-mortem. They took his body to their hometown Etawah for the last rites.

Police said Mishra's parents, a resident of Etawah, had shifted him from LNJP Hospital to Ganga Ram Hospital, where his condition remains critical. Mishra sustained multiple head injuries on his face and head in the accident.

A case under sections 281 (reckless driving) and 125(a) (causing hurt by endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at the Kotwali police station.
