Israel reports rocket fire; Hezbollah allegedly attacks military bases

JERUSALEM: The Israeli military said dozens of rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israeli territory on September 20; Hezbollah said it attacked Israeli military bases.

“Starting at 1:02 p.m., about 140 rockets were fired from Lebanon within an hour,” a military spokeswoman told AFP.

The attack came after the Israeli military said it had hit dozens of rocket launchers that were ready for use against Israel overnight.

Hezbollah said it had fired a barrage of rockets at Israeli military bases in retaliation for the attacks on southern Lebanon, while the situation worsened following deadly sabotage attacks on its communications equipment.

The group said it fired “salvos of Katyusha rockets” at at least six Israeli “army headquarters” and bases, including a “central air defense base.”

Israel has not commented on the explosions that rocked Lebanon this week.

For nearly a year, Israel's firepower was focused on the Palestinian militia Hamas in the Gaza Strip, but its troops were also involved in almost daily battles with Hezbollah militants.

The cross-border exchanges of fire left hundreds of people dead in Lebanon, most of them fighters, and dozens in Israel, including soldiers. Tens of thousands of people on both sides of the border were forced to flee their homes. AFP
