What did Riddhima Kapoor say?

Talking about not wanting her daughter to be on social media because of the trolls, Riddhima said in the April 2024 interview, “She (Samara) wants to be on social media, I honestly don't want her to be on social media. I want her not to be on social media. But I told her that if she wants to continue using her account (seemingly an Instagram account), she shouldn't let it affect her and she can't read all her comments. People write all kinds of things. Everyone sits somewhere and writes these comments. Maybe the household staff are commenting, who knows?”

Reactions on Reddit

As soon as the old clip was shared on Reddit, many Reddit users criticized Riddhima for her comment on the topic of “domestic help.” One said, “You must be treating domestic help like subhumans, you just exposed yourself.”

“They are not doing anything good with such interviews”

One Redditor wrote, “What she is saying doesn't make sense. If Riddhima doesn't want her child on social media but the daughter does, they can find a compromise by keeping her profile strictly private and only allowing access to friends and family. And they are not doing anything good by doing interviews like this. This will bring more unwanted attention to their child.” Someone else wrote in response to this comment, “That's what they wanted. Also, the house help thing shows that they are treating her badly so she thinks the house help is taking revenge.”

One person also said, “Everything she said made sense except when she said domestic help as a class-hostile remark. Domestic helpers shouldn't be on social media and all the trolls are from a class below them. If only she realised how much class hierarchy is ingrained in her thinking.” One comment also read, “Insanely unnecessary, class-hostile/elitist and even pointless… who and why would anyone use domestic help as an insult? It's an honest way to make a living…”

Riddhima is a jewellery designer. In 2006, she married Delhi-based businessman Bharat Sahni. In 2011, the couple had their only child, daughter Samara.
