Dead Rising is a homage to the classic zombie films by George A. Romero, especially “Dawn of the Dead”. The player takes on the role of freelance photojournalist Frank West, who ends up in the fictional small town of Willamette, Colorado, in search of the next story. Once there, he finds himself in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and has to seek refuge in the local shopping center.

Almost unique for Dead Rising was the time limit system at the time. Players only have 72 in-game hours to master the story and save as many survivors as possible, which adds extra tension and forces you to make decisions and set priorities under pressure.
