Women draw, men lose to Colorado Northwestern CC in first ever home game

JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – The College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles football teams were excited to play their first home games of their inaugural season Thursday afternoon.

“The crowd was great. It was amazing to play in front of a home crowd for the first time,” said Associate Head Coach Andrew Zaleski. “The players were excited.”

The women's team (4-1-1, 3-0-1 SWAC) hosted No. 19 Colorado Northwestern Community College.

CSI struck first in the 32nd minute when freshman Kenna Fransen converted to give Southern Idaho its first home goal.

However, the Spartans responded in the second half with a goal from Lilly Wittwer and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Zaleski thought the team played well for their first home game.

“Honestly, I thought the game plan worked today. Individually we could have been better, but it's one of those games where if you don't shut the door, teams, especially good teams, have a chance to come back,” Zaleski told KMVT.

Kirstine Kent was able to save four shots as goalkeeper for the Golden Eagles.

The women's team is back home on Saturday and hosts Salt Lake Community College (No. 7). Kickoff is at 11:00 a.m.

The men's team (3:3, 2:2 SWAC) followed suit and got off to a quick start, with newcomer Amin Ahssain scoring after just 16 seconds.

However, the Spartans responded with a goal of their own in the first period and decided the game with a second goal in the 83rd minute to win 2-1.

The men's team is back in action on Saturday when it hosts No. 2 Salt Lake Community College, kicking off at 1:30 p.m.
