Woman dies, regulator notified after police shooting in Surrey, BC

SURREY, BC – British Columbia's Independent Police Oversight Authority has been notified after a woman was shot by police in Surrey, BC

According to RCMP, this happened on Thursday when police were called to a disturbance at a home around 4:40 a.m.

Police said they found a woman barricaded in a room with a small child holding a gun, and an officer fired his weapon while speaking to the woman.

Despite immediate medical treatment, the woman died at the scene of the accident.

According to police, neither the child nor two other adults in the home were injured; they were taken away when officers arrived.

The RCMP says the Independent Investigations Office of BC has been notified and police will not release any further information on the case.
