David Schwarz' Shock Preliminary Final Prediction

David Schwarz' Shock Preliminary Final Prediction

Melbourne great David Schwarz is very confident about Geelong ahead of Saturday's preliminary final against Brisbane at the MCG.

The Cats go into the decisive clash with an extra week's rest after winning the qualifying final against Port Adelaide, while Brisbane enter the game having overturned a 44-point deficit to win against GWS in the semi-final last week.

Although the Cats are slight favorites, Schwarz is confident that they will easily beat Chris Fagan's team and win by 40 to 50 points.

He expects the Cats to defend tenaciously and overrun Brisbane if their forwards are inaccurate in front of goal.

“I’ve been saying for about a month that Geelong will win the flag,” said Schwarz SEN The Captain's Run.

“I just think they are having the best years of their lives. They have so much experience, so much strength, they are more powerfully built and have played in so many finals.

“Brisbane are a very competitive team but if their big boys don't step up – and we saw what Joe Daniher did against GWS – but if they don't kick properly and Geelong defend as well as any team in the business … then I think this could be a landslide victory.

“I'm predicting a 40 to 50 point lead for the Cats. I think they will beat them and march into the final with superior confidence.”

Although he favours Geelong as a championship contender, Schwarz praised Chris Scott's system for the equal contribution of all 23 of his players.

“I firmly believe in the Cats,” said Schwarz.

“At the moment they have depth, they have a system, they have players that keep coming up, whether it’s Lawson Humphries or Shaun Mannagh – everyone that comes into the team plays their role and they do it well.”

“I don’t think that will change anything.”

The preliminary final between Geelong and Brisbane on Saturday at the MCG starts at 5.15pm (AEST).
