New Rochelle man arrested after domestic dispute and standoff

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A 35-year-old man was arrested late Tuesday night after a domestic dispute at an Eastchester Road apartment. He allegedly punched a woman and then barricaded himself in a bedroom with a knife. The suspect, Eduardo Valencia-Maldonado, eventually turned himself in to police without incident.

New Rochelle police arrived at the scene at approximately 11:04 p.m. on September 17, 2024. According to authorities, Valencia-Maldonado assaulted a woman he knew before locking himself in a bedroom. Officers arrived and detained the other residents of the apartment while attempting to communicate with the suspect.

After Valencia-Maldonado initially received no response, the police managed to convince him to surrender peacefully. He was arrested at the scene.

Valencia-Maldonado was charged with first-degree criminal contempt, a Class E felony, for failure to comply with a protective order. The incident remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported.

  • Three people arrested after stabbing and weapons found in New Rochelle

    NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle police arrested three people following a stabbing incident and the recovery of a firearm early Tuesday morning. The arrests were made in connection with a stabbing at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital, where a 20-year-old Bronx man was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

    Police were called to the hospital at approximately 12:58 a.m. on September 17, 2024, after the stabbing victim drove himself to the emergency room. The victim told officers that his girlfriend had stabbed him in the back during an argument at their home on 4th Street in New Rochelle.

    While police were questioning the victim, the suspect, 18-year-old Danasia Hollis of New Rochelle, arrived at the hospital. She was identified by the victim and taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered the knife allegedly used in the stabbing attack on her.

    During the investigation, officers seized the victim's vehicle, which contained a significant amount of blood. A search of the car uncovered a .25 caliber handgun. As a result, both the victim, Tyshawn Jackson, and a friend who accompanied him to the hospital, Tyree Anderson, were arrested without incident.

    Arrested and charged:

    • Danasia Hollis, 18, of New Rochelle, was charged with second-degree assault, a Class D felony.
    • Tyshawn Jackson, 20, of the Bronx, and Tyree Anderson, 21, of the Bronx, were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (a Class C felony).

    The investigation is still ongoing.

  • Powerball ticket worth $1 million sold in Essex County

    TRENTON – A New Jersey Lottery ticket sold in Newark matched five of the five white balls in Wednesday's Powerball drawing, winning the $1 million second prize.

    The ticket, sold at Variedades Ecualatinas at 262 Ferry St. in Essex County, matched numbers 01, 11, 22, 47 and 68 from the Sept. 18 drawing. The Red Powerball number was 07 and the Power Play multiplier was 4X.

    In addition to the million-dollar winner, 21,504 players across New Jersey won prizes totaling $150,444, ranging in value from $4 to $400.

    The Powerball jackpot continues to grow, with an estimated $195 million up for grabs in the next drawing on Saturday, September 21.

    For players who opted for the Double Play feature, the winning numbers in the Double Play drawing were 16, 23, 50, 53 and 66 with a Double Play ball count of 14.
