Milton man dies after falling into garbage compactor

A Milton man was killed Wednesday when he fell into a paper press at Cottrell Paper.

The accident occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m. at the plant on Rock City Road in Milton.

Anthony T. Smith, 42, became stuck in the trash compactor, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office.

Company employees and members of the Rock City Falls Department and Community EMS extricated him from the machine, but were unable to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The New York State Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration assisted on site.

The cause of the accident is currently being investigated.
