Suspect killed by state trooper in Orange County

WOODBURY, NY (WBNG) – A suspect was killed by New York State Police in Orange County on September 18

State police announced they are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the town of Woodbury. Police identified the suspect as Ali Ali, 28, of New York City.

On the morning of September 18, Troop E was notified that a stolen vehicle was located in Rockland County on the New York State Thruway heading toward Orange County. The driver of the vehicle was Ali, who was wanted by the NYPD for a stabbing.

State police said troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, but Ali did not comply. Police said Ali's vehicle eventually became disabled, struck a semi-truck and caught fire. Ali was able to get out of the vehicle and escape into a wooded area in Woodbury.

According to police, Ali was found by officers on the afternoon of September 18 after a homeowner spotted him on a trail camera.

According to police, Ali was armed with a knife and ignored orders to drop it. Officers used a taser on him, causing him to fall to the ground, but he got up with the knife.

According to police, an officer then fired his weapon and struck him. The officers tried to save Ali's life, but Ali died at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police said the New York State Attorney General's Office had been notified of the shooting.
