61-year-old man dies after running a red light and colliding with oncoming car in Kapolei

HONOKAI HALE (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 61-year-old man is dead after police say he ran a red light and collided with an oncoming car in the Kapolei area Wednesday night.

It happened around 10:20 p.m. at the intersection of Laaloa Street and Farrington Highway.

According to police, the man attempted to turn left onto Laaloa Street on a red light when he collided with an oncoming car.

He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 34-year-old woman, was also taken to hospital in serious condition.

HPD said speed does not appear to have played a role in the crash, but it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the 61-year-old man's crash. He also was not wearing a seatbelt.

This is the 32nd traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 41 in the same period in 2023.

The investigation is ongoing.
