Birthday party takes tragic turn: Delhi University students injured in SUV accident in North Delhi

In a tragic incident early Thursday, five Delhi University students were injured when their SUV crashed into a guardrail near Rajghat in north Delhi at high speed. The guardrail pierced the vehicle, leaving two seriously injured, police sources said.

Officials suspect that the students were under the influence of alcohol. However, a student mentioned that the driver was distracted by his mobile phone while changing songs, which led to the accident. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) MK Meena confirmed that a case was registered at Kotwali police station under sections 281 (reckless driving) and 125(a) (causing hurt by endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The seriously injured students Aishwarya Pandey and Aishwarya Mishra are being treated in different hospitals. The investigation is ongoing and is looking into all aspects, including possible defects in the road construction.
