Tragic fate for 17-year-old high school student from Massachusetts after driving alone

A 17-year-old Massachusetts high school graduate who died in a car accident is being remembered by her family and community as “the girl with the most contagious smile.”

Madison Straub drove into a tree in the Duxbury neighborhood while driving alone, Duxbury police said.

Emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident early Saturday morning at around 12:20 a.m. and found the teenager unconscious and trapped in the car.

The unconscious high school student was freed with the help of rescue shears and flown to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Pembroke girl eventually died a few days later on Monday evening, and authorities have since launched an investigation into the crash.

Her aunt, Corey Straub, started a fundraiser for the Straub family and said, “Madison Straub touched the lives of everyone whose path crossed hers. She will always be remembered as the girl with the most infectious smile, the most beautiful soul and the love of travel.”

She added that with the loss of Madison's father, Reed Straub, in 2019, they were “two beautiful souls gone far too soon.”

“It breaks my heart to see our family suffer another loss… The world will never be the same without this beautiful girl,” she wrote.

All proceeds will go towards a vacation for the family and to cover funeral costs. So far, over $4,000 has been raised for the grieving family.

Before the fatal accident, the teenager wanted to take a family trip to Aruba to celebrate her high school graduation.

Now the family will travel together to celebrate the life of their beloved daughter and sister.

In addition to Madison's family, the Duxbury Police Department also expressed its “deepest condolences” to the friends and family of the deceased teenager.

Madison's family told NBC10 Boston that the 12th-grader at Silver Lake High School is also an organ donor and that six people are set to receive organs, including her heart.

The young woman was registered as an organ donor and her heart is to be donated. Six other people are to receive organs.

Hobomock PTO, a Pembroke-based nonprofit volunteer organization, posted a post in honor of the teens, raising funds to help those grieving the loss of the “amazing and beautiful young girl.”

One local commented on the post, saying: “She was a great personality, a hard worker, always with a big smile and a great spirit. My heart goes out to the family and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She lives on in all of us!!!”

Blackbird Baking Co. has volunteered to donate 100 percent of its proceeds from the Pembroke Farmers Market on September 21 to the grieving family.

Last night, a candlelight vigil organized by Pembroke Youth Baseball and Softball was held at the baseball field where Madison worked.

George Howe, a member of the panel that organized the vigil, told Boston 25 News that after working closely with the teenager, he noticed he was “just on his way up.”
