“I was sexually abused,” claims the fiancée of an Indian army officer

In the latest development related to the ‘assault and arrest’ of an Indian Army officer of Sikh Regiment Major Gurvansh Singh and his fiancée at Bharatpur police station, the female victim, during her first interaction with journalists, alleged that she was sexually harassed by police officials on duty at the police station.

After a health check-up at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar, the army officer's fiancée told the media on Thursday: “I was physically and sexually assaulted by the police officials on duty, including the IIC of Bharatpur.”

Narrating her ordeal with tears in her eyes, she said, “After closing my restaurant at around 1 am on September 15, I was returning home with Gurvansh when some miscreants blocked our way and misbehaved with us.”

“Somehow we managed to escape from them and reached Bharatpur police station to lodge a complaint regarding the matter. When we reached the police station, we found a woman constable in her nightgown at the reception. When we urged her to lodge the complaint, she started abusing us,” she added.

“After some time, a male officer came and forcibly detained Gurvansh. When I asked the policeman to release him and said that an army officer cannot be detained as it is illegal, two female officers pulled me by my hair and started beating me. In between, a woman policeman tried to choke my throat and in self-defence I bit her hand,” she said.

“Later, they tied my hands with my jacket and my legs with a female police officer's scarf. They took me to a room. Moments later, I was sexually harassed by a male police officer. At around 6 am, the IIC came and started sexually harassing me,” she said through tears.
