2 men die in fire at Kaki Bukit industrial building, Latest news from Singapore

Two men were killed in a fire at an industrial building in Kaki Bukit on September 19.

In a Facebook post that day, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was notified of the fire at 25 Kaki Bukit Road 4 at around 12:55pm.

When the fire department arrived, an apartment on the fifth floor of the building was on fire.

During the firefighting operations, SCDF firefighters found two unconscious people in a building opposite the burning building.

Firefighters rescued the duo from the fire and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on them.

They were taken to Changi General Hospital.

As The Straits Times learned, they were later pronounced dead.

According to SCDF, the entire floor was full of smoke and the fire was extinguished with two water jets.

Firefighters from Paya Lebar Fire Station and Tampines Fire Station responded to the incident.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated, it said.

According to a Google search, the Synergy @ KB building houses several automotive companies.

When The Straits Times appeared at around 3pm, hundreds of workers were sitting on the roadside of Kaki Bukit Road 4.

The police had cordoned off the streets to Synergy @ KB.

An employee who wished to remain anonymous said he fled his eighth-floor office with nine colleagues, including one who was five months pregnant.

“It was a large fire and the fire engulfed the affected unit. The flames reached up to the sixth floor,” said the dealership employee.

The 26-year-old pregnant woman, Ms Sharon Kwek, said she suffered no injuries and the fire was quickly extinguished.

Bangladeshi worker Das Manik said he was on the third floor of the building when the fire alarm went off shortly before 1 p.m.

The 33-year-old, who works in a carpentry shop, said his supervisor yelled at him to leave and they fled the building.
