Troops break up criminal network in Taraba

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6th Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have once again dismantled a notorious criminal network allegedly responsible for various acts of violence and unrest in Karim-Lamido Local Government Council of Taraba State.

In a statement released to journalists on Wednesday by the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 6th Brigade, Captain Oni Olubodunde, said the operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects.

The statement said: “Based on credible intelligence, troops conducted a well-coordinated operation against the crime syndicate, which is linked to a range of violent crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping and illegal arms trafficking.”

“The swift and precise action of the gallant troops of the Brigade led to the arrest of a key member of the gang known as ‘Malam Ali Tambaya’ in Wanzani village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.”

Items seized from the suspects during the operation include an AK-47 rifle and 42 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition.

During the preliminary investigation, Ali Tambaya confessed that he purchased the rifle about five years ago from one Alhaji Dandi for 500,000 Naira and ammunition worth 1,000 Naira each.

He is also said to have claimed that a certain Alhaji Kiwo gave him 38 of the 42 cartridges for safekeeping.

“The troops immediately pursued the other suspects and arrested Alhaji Dandi while efforts to track down and arrest Alhaji Kiwo are ongoing,” the statement said.

The Brigade Commander, Brigadier Kingsley Uwa, commended the gallant efforts of the troops and reiterated their commitment to eradicating criminal elements in Taraba State.

He urged the public to continue to provide security forces with timely and accurate information, as cooperation between the military and civilians remains crucial to achieving lasting peace.
