Kangana Ranaut says Bollywood actors exploit women in the film industry.

Kangana Ranaut, who is currently awaiting the release of her first solo directorial film Emergency, has made shocking claims in a recent interview. The actress said that Bollywood actors attack and exploit women in the film industry.

In a recent interview with News18 India Chaupal, Kangana Ranaut spoke about women's safety in the film industry and said, “Do you know how these heroes attack women? They invite them for dinner, send them messages and ask them to come home.” She also drew a parallel with the Kolkata rape and murder case and said, “Look at the Kolkata rape and murder case. Look at the rape threats that were made to me. We know that we don't respect women. It is no different in the film industry. College boys comment on women. Film heroes are no different. They are like that too. We know how women are treated in the workplace.”

On the issue of abuse in Bollywood, Kangana Ranaut added, “Even Saroj Khan was once asked about rape and sexual abuse in the film industry and he said, 'Rape toh karte hai par roti bhi dete hai'. This is the situation of our daughters in this film industry.”

The actress was also asked why she turned down films with Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, to which she replied, “There was a time when I wanted to work with them but then I had difficulties for 10 years, people rejected me because I didn't fit into the format of an item song or one or two scenes. So I got success in other ways with films like Queen, Manikarnika etc. I found my identity as an actress in the industry so why would I do a supporting role with anyone?”

Kangana Ranaut's Emergency has been postponed due to legal action against the film. In Emergency, Kangana Ranaut plays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, along with Anupam Kher, Milind Soman and Shreyas Talpade among others in lead roles. The film was scheduled to release on September 6, but has now been postponed and the new release date is yet to be announced.
