Who will be promoted to detective in season 12 of Chicago PD?

“People are being promoted,” says showrunner Gwen Sigan about Chicago Police Season 12. Finally.

Finally, following the departure of Tracy Spiridakos and the departure of Detective Hailey Upton from the secret service, zero Detectives in the unit. Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati), Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) have been cops since the series began. (Benjamin Levy Aguilar's Dante Torres, who joined in Season 9, is also a cop, and so is this year's new hire, Kiana Cook, Toya Turner.) But that will change in Episode 6. (Season 12 premieres Wednesday, September 25.)

“Someone is getting promoted, and I think it's someone who has wanted this for some time and for whom it made a lot of sense,” Sigan told TV Insider. “In the [writers’] Room, we've talked about this storyline for so long, but how do you make it a story? How do you make it interesting? How do you make it something that really tells you something about the person and isn't just a piece of paper?”

This reflects what Sigan told us at the end of last season after the finale when she noted that after the test they just do the same work; that is what we saw at PD all this time with Intelligence. But the writers found a way to use this storyline for the character who gets this promotion.

“We really got into the real Chicago promotion process and just showed that it's really hard to become a detective. Seeing that and seeing this character and what it means when you look at who you want to be as a cop and how a promotion like that affects that was really fun,” Sigan says. “And I think it's going to bring some new dynamics to the unit.”

So who do you think will get promoted in season 12? Let us know in the comments section below.
