New show – success or Eurovision yawn contest?

Pure nostalgia or Eurovision yawn contest? Stefan Raab's return after almost ten years divides opinions and raises suspicions.

Stefan Raab is back for good. With the words “I'm back. It's that simple,” the 57-year-old opened the first episode of his new entertainment show “You won't win the million here,” which is available on the streaming service RTL+ – from now on every Wednesday evening from 8:10 p.m. For Raab, it is a comeback after almost ten years away from the public eye.

He announced the show just last weekend during his boxing match against former world champion Regina Halmich. Raab himself calls it “the world's first entertainment quiz competition hybrid show”. It is supposed to be a mixture of late night comedy, quiz and competition, in which the candidates can win a million euros. Critics, however, see less innovation in the format than Raab, and fear a dull mixture of the old formats that Raab once invented and shaped, from “TV Total” to “Schlag den Raab”.

In fact, some things were reminiscent of the earlier shows. Raab presented and commentated on RTL+, just as he once did on ProSieben, wearing a light blue shirt, jeans and white sneakers. The Heavytones band played in the studio. From the voice-over to the studio look and the clips, many things were reminiscent of the old days, which pleased some of the audience and annoyed others. This leads to the question:
