Cape Cod man charged with sexual abuse of two children

A grand jury has indicted a Yarmouth man in connection with two separate assaults on young children in 2021 and 2024, Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois announced.

For the 2021 incident, Ryan Evans, 27, of Yarmouth, was charged with unarmed burglary, attempted rape of a child, assault, malicious damage to property valued less than $1,200, theft under $1,200 and attempted burglary, Galibois' office said in a statement.

Evans was charged in connection with the incident in 2024 with attempted rape of a child, two counts of sexual assault and battery, and enticement of a child under 16, the statement said.

On July 6, 2021, a young girl was awakened in her bedroom by Evans screaming, Galibois' office said. The girl's father chased Evans out of the house and called 911, sparking an investigation.

A neighbor told police that someone had tried to break into her house, where her young son also lives, that same night, the statement said. Fingerprints were found that matched Evans'.

More than three years later, on July 9, 2024, a young boy was lured behind a bathroom stall in a Yarmouth park by a man named Evans, according to Galibois' office. The boy was able to run away while Evans rode away on his bicycle.

However, as a condition of the 2021 case, Evans was required to wear a GPS monitor, the statement said. Police used GPS location data to determine that Evans had been behind the park.

Evans' arraignment in Barnstable Superior Court is scheduled for Thursday, September 19.
