Golden Retriever misses his human sister in daycare and gets an even better playmate

The bond between a child and a dog is a precious thing that can enrich a child's life immensely. Studies show that people who grow up with pets have more active lifestyles, regulate their emotions better, and have fewer allergies. Children who have a dog or cat to love and care for in their early years learn responsibility, empathy, kindness, and patience.

This little girl is so lucky to have a loving golden retriever like Lady in her household. And it's clear that Lady loves her “little sister” too. But their bond is so strong that Lady actually misses her when she's at daycare and would feel lonely and depressed alone in the house. That is, until she got another baby to love.

In this video we see the change that takes place in the life of Golden Retriever Lady after her little sister starts daycare. Left alone all day without her playmate, Lady became withdrawn and listless, sleeping most of the day and seeming very lonely.

So her family decided to help her by adopting another dog – a golden retriever puppy named Lily. Now Lady is experiencing something of a second puppy life, as she and Lily chase each other around the house.

“She plays all day now,” her mother admits in this video, and it's clear that Lily's exuberant enthusiasm was just the medicine the doctor ordered for Lady's loneliness.

Is a Golden Retriever right for you?

Golden Retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds due to their gentle, friendly nature. Golden Retrievers are easy to train and extremely sociable. They are known to be good family dogs who enjoy being around their humans and have never met someone they didn't immediately want as a friend. In fact, one of the downsides of having a Golden Retriever is that they can seem so “needy” when they're not with their humans. That's why it's good that Lady has a new canine friend to keep her company while her human sister is at school.

Golden Retrievers also have a long, fluffy coat that is prone to shedding, and as retrievers they are athletic dogs that need plenty of daily walks and exercise to stay fit and happy. But they are loving and lovable family dogs that have been loved for generations.

Introducing a new puppy to the other dogs in the house

How easy it is to welcome a new puppy into a home with other dogs depends a lot on the type of dog and its personality. Sociable and sociable, Golden Retrievers make instant friends with any newcomer. In fact, their immediate curiosity and affection can be a bit overwhelming, especially for a small, frightened puppy. Other dogs are more reserved. In all cases, it is best to introduce the dogs to each other on neutral ground if possible, and to make sure everyone is on a leash so the dogs can be easily controlled and separated – just in case the meeting does not go as harmoniously as planned. Dogs should be reminded to be gentle and patient, and they should be rewarded with treats for their gentle, calm behavior.

But with patience and careful supervision, you'll likely see them bond in no time, as is the case here between Lady and Lily.
