Dodgers pitcher clears out his locker between games in Atlanta

The Los Angeles Dodgers are preparing for Sunday's series finale against the Atlanta Braves. The Dodgers are looking to avoid a sweep against the Braves, with first pitch scheduled for 4:10 p.m. PT.

While the Dodgers are doing everything they can to avoid being swept off the field, one of their top pitchers, right-handed hitter Tyler Glasnow, no longer has a place in Atlanta.

Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic shared it via Twitter/X.

It's unclear what this means for the future, but it could mean Glasnow returning to Los Angeles.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced Saturday that Glasnow sprained his right elbow and is “highly unlikely” to pitch again this season. The news is a devastating blow to the team's World Series expectations and raises serious concerns about the preseason rotation.

“It's a big blow,” Roberts said. “Considering what he meant to our club, what he did for us, what we expected from him — it's certainly going to come at a cost. But we have to move on and we will. We have a lot of capable guys. I feel bad for Tyler because he did everything he could to stay healthy and come back and it just didn't work out.”

Glasnow should be a top pitcher in the Dodgers' rotation in October, but he most likely won't pitch until the 2025 season. The 31-year-old has been out since August 11 with what the team describes as tendinitis in his elbow.

He appeared to be close to returning before suffering another setback that essentially ended his season. The right-handed pitcher was warming up for a simulated two- to three-inning game before the Dodgers' series opener on Friday. It was supposed to be the final step toward a return, but instead he had to be stopped because of elbow discomfort as he approached his 25th pitch out of the bullpen.

The Dodgers traded Glasnow in December 2023, giving up two promising young players: starter Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny DeLuca. LA wasn't satisfied with that and signed Glasnow for five years and $136.6 million. The hope was that Glasnow would pitch for LA on the biggest stage, but now that will have to wait, and it could massively hurt LA's World Series chances.

The Dodgers rely on powerful players like Bobby Miller and Walker Buehler and hope that Gavin Stone will return from the injured list to take a big step forward.
