FM spokesman: Student at a Japanese school in Shenzhen stabbed near the school, attacker arrested on site

A ten-year-old student at the Shenzhen Japanese School was stabbed to death by a man about 200 meters from the school on Wednesday morning, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

Responding to a media inquiry about the Shenzhen stabbing, Lin Jian, a spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry, said during a regular press conference on Wednesday afternoon that the 10-year-old student at Shenzhen Japanese School was stabbed by a man about 200 meters from the school on Wednesday morning. The injured student was immediately taken to hospital and is receiving emergency treatment, the spokesman said. Lin also revealed that the attacker was arrested at the scene while the case is currently under investigation.

“The Chinese side will continue to take effective measures to practically protect the safety of all foreigners in China,” the spokesman said.

According to a statement released by the Nanshan branch of the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau on Wednesday, local police received a report of a knife attack in which a minor surnamed Shen was injured in Zhaoshang community, Nanshan district, Shenzhen at around 8 a.m. on Wednesday. After receiving the report, the bureau immediately sent police officers to the scene to investigate the situation. A 44-year-old male suspect surnamed Zhong was arrested at the scene. Police also helped transport the injured student to the hospital for treatment, according to the statement, which also said that the investigation into the case and the treatment of the injured man are still ongoing.
