Doug Emhoff's ex Kerstin responds bluntly to Sarah Huckabee Sanders' dig at Kamala Harris for not having children

Doug Emhoff's ex-wife is defending Kamala Harris after another Republican attack line emerged Tuesday night accusing the vice president of never having given birth to biological children.

Kerstin Emhoff has two children with the second man and sharply criticized Sarah Huckabee Sanders for claiming at a town hall meeting with Donald Trump on Tuesday that Harris was not “modest” because she did not have children.

It confirms the much-criticized comments made by Republican vice presidential candidate Senator JD Vance in 2021 when he said the country was run by Democratic “childless cat ladies.”

Emhoff has often publicly praised Harris for her excellent role as stepmother to her children Cole, 30, and Ella, 25, when the vice president joined her blended family in 2014.

“Cole and Ella inspire us to make the world a better place,” she posted on X. “I do that by telling stories. Kamala Harris has spent her entire career working for the people, for ALL families.”

“It keeps you pretty humble,” she said.

Sanders, who served as Trump's White House press secretary before becoming governor of Arkansas, accused Harris of not having children of her own before Trump joined her on stage at a town hall meeting in Detroit on Tuesday.

The insult came after pop star Taylor Swift joined the childless cat lady brigade when she endorsed Harris' candidacy following the September 10 debate.

“My most important job and my greatest title is that of a mother,” she told the crowd in the swing state of Michigan.

“My children are a constant reminder of what is at stake in this country,” said the mother of three.

“My children not only constantly remind me of what is important, they also keep me humble,” Sanders continued. “My children keep me humble.”

“Unfortunately, there is nothing that keeps Kamala Harris humble,” she concluded.

Although Harris has no biological children, she is the stepmother of Doug and Kerstin's two children, Cole (30) and Ella (25), whom she affectionately calls “Momala.”

The latest attack occurred Tuesday night on the stage of Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders before a town hall meeting with Donald Trump in Detroit, Michigan.

Although Harris has no biological children, her two stepchildren often affectionately call her “Momala.”

Harris' marital status became a hotly debated topic in Republican circles after Trump named Ohio Senator Vance as his running mate earlier this summer.

A 2021 interview with Tucker Carlson has resurfaced in which Vance said the United States was ruled by “childless cat ladies” who he claimed had no “direct stake” in the country's future.

Women rushed to Harris's aid, including the mother of her stepchildren.

Speaking before a town hall meeting with Donald Trump in Detroit on Tuesday, Sarah Huckabee Sanders said: “My children are not only a constant reminder of what is important, they also keep me humble… Unfortunately, Kamala Harris has nothing to keep her humble.”

“For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has been a mother to Doug and me of our child,” Kerstin said in a statement.

“She is loving, caring, extremely protective and always there. I love our blended family and am grateful to have her.”

Ella also defended her stepmother in an Instagram post, writing, “How can you be 'childless' when you have such sweet kids like Cole and I?”

Harris and Doug Emhoff married in 2014, when Cole and Ella were teenagers. They met in 2013 on a blind date arranged by Disney executive Dana Walden and her husband Matt, who has been friends with the second gentleman for decades.
