Modi 3.0: First 100 days with important reforms and initiatives

The Modi 3.0 government has marked its first 100 days with several significant reforms and initiatives. Highlights include the introduction of three new penal laws, amendments to the Disaster Management Act and a strategic plan to eradicate left-wing extremism by March 2026, a senior Home Ministry official announced on Wednesday.

The Home Ministry has updated the Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) to incorporate the new laws. “Software patches have been developed and implemented in ICJS Pillar Applications to reflect these changes,” the official reported. Notably, over 800,000 officers have been trained, resulting in the registration of 556,000 FIRs under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Amendments to the Disaster Management Act aim to clarify the roles of the central organisations involved in disaster management. From the national to the state level, Rs 12,554 crore has been allocated for various disaster management projects. In addition, 231,000 volunteers are being trained as first responders in disasters under the 'Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme'.

Significant progress has also been made in resolving long-standing issues in conflict-prone areas. A memorandum of settlement was signed with insurgent groups in Tripura, marking the end of a 35-year-long conflict. The government also launched the final phase of its initiative to eradicate left-wing extremism by 2026, which includes intelligence-led operations and awareness-raising campaigns.

In response to the increasing cyber threats, the ministry has set up a special department for “cyber commandos”. These trained specialists will help secure the country's digital landscape. 5,000 cyber commandos are to be trained over the next five years.
