Shootings in Bergen and Haugesund

Police in Bergen and Haugesund investigated two shootings in both west coast cities this week. Officers immediately armed themselves after finding an injured man in the Haraldsvang district of Haugesund.

Witnesses to the shooting called police on Monday evening after one of them saw people with suspected firearms. Police, who are usually unarmed in Norway, found no one when they arrived at the scene, but were later informed of an injured person in the emergency room at Haugesund Hospital.

They suspected that others were also involved and possibly injured, while the investigation continued. “These are people from two groups who know each other,” a police spokesman told state broadcaster NRK. “No one was a victim by chance.”

Meanwhile, the police in Bergen were investigating Two shots were fired at two buses in the Fyllingsdalen district late Tuesday night. The shooting occurred between 11pm and 1.30am and it is believed that an air rifle was used.

No one was injured, but police described the incident as serious and aimed at spreading fear. Both shootings came just as the Norwegian government launched a war on crime after an unusually violent period across the country.
