Legendary “Jambo Bwana” singer Teddy Kalanda of Them Mushrooms has died

Teddy Kalanda, member of the famous band Mushroom, is dead.

According to Maina Kageni’s co-host Mwalimu Kingangi Kalanda passed away last night (Tuesday, 17, 2024).

Maina and King'ang'i expressed their condolences during the Today's Morning Show.

Them Mushrooms is a music band from Kenya that plays mainly chakacha, some benga and also reggae. They are best known for the 1982 Swahili song Yambo, Bwana.

Jambo Bwana “(Hakuna Matata), the band's biggest hit of 1980, earned the group gold, silver and platinum status (records) for over 200,000 copies sold.

Additionally, the song charted in seven different versions, the most notable of which was the version by the disco group Boney M.

The band consists of the late Teddy Kalanda, Henry Ndenge Saha and Ben Mutwiwa. They mainly play cover versions of previously written hits.
