Child dies in side-by-side crash

CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A child died in a side-by-side crash in Cabell County Monday evening.

According to the Cabell County Sheriff's Department, the accident occurred in the Cavill Creek area of ​​the county.

School officials told WSAZ that the child was a student at West Hamlin Elementary School.

A post on the Lincoln County Schools Facebook page reads: “Today is a sad day for our school and community as we have learned of the tragic loss of one of our students. There is no greater tragedy than the death of a young person and we extend our sincere condolences and continued support to the student's family, friends and community.”

Another post from West Hamlin Elementary reads: “It is with deep sadness that we inform our school community of the tragic loss of one of our students. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the student's family and friends during this difficult time. We understand that this news may be difficult for many of our students to process. To support our school community, the County Crisis Team will be available on campus beginning tomorrow. Our Student Support Team is also ready to provide support to any student who needs it.”
