Netflix is canceling my favorite series in 2024

Yay, I found a new favorite show on Netflix! What? It's being canceled?!

A comment by Marina Hänsel

Why didn't anyone warn me about Dead Boy Detectives?

Of course, I didn't notice anything again, even though I write about games, films or series every day. Of course, with the start of autumn I found a new favorite series on Netflix after it was canceled a week earlier.

Of course, I watched almost the entire first season until I found out that my colleagues had already written about the death of this series. Why didn't anyone warn me and forbid me from falling in love with Dead Boy Detectives? Why does Netflix cancel series that are really good – and even loved by a die-hard community?

Dead Boy Detectives is the perfect fall series – and you should check it out if you're a Sandman or Supernatural fan:

Dead Boy Detectives – Season 1 | Official Trailer

Fun, scary, well acted – Dead Boy Detectives is simply the perfect horror series

In the intro of Dead Boy Detectives (watch on Netflix) you see skeletons dancing around happily, in the series itself you watch two dead young men flying as ghosts before death and Solve totally crazy fantasy cases.

The series offers a mixture of good humor, fast action, really strange fantasy creatures and surprisingly well-written charactersFor me personally, Dead Boy Detectives is an art Supernaturalonly more colorful, more lively and younger. Incidentally, the series is part of the Sandman universe and fantasy author Neil Gaiman also has a hand in it. You can tell right away.

A week ago Netflix canceled the supernatural hit. And it's not just me who is shocked, but also the fans – of which there are quite a few. On IMDb, Dead Boy Detectives has a really good rating of 7.5/10; with over 17,000 reviews. The series is also loved on Rotten Tomatoes – 92 percent of critics are enthusiastic; 90 percent of fans gave a positive rating.

In short: Dead Boy Detectives is another series on Netflix that was actually worth watching and was immediately canceled. It joins hit series such as Sense8, 1899 and The OA. The latter is one of the best series I have ever seen.

For me personally, this just shows once again that Netflix prefers to show mediocre popcorn productions as long as they attract enough viewers to the TV. However, long-term investments in original, highly acclaimed productions are not made – Money is more important than origin and if a film or series doesn't hit you right away, there's probably no second chance.

Luckily, I don’t care if Dead Boy Detectives continues to be on Netflix – or not. My hope now is that that another streaming provider sees the potential of the series and continues it instead. The fans have already started an online petition. Maybe that will get someone else to invest money.
