Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing charges in New York court of sexual assault, human trafficking and conspiracy to commit organized crime

Disgraced rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing charges in a lengthy sex trafficking investigation, federal prosecutors said. Combs, 54, was arrested Monday night at the Park Hyatt New York in Manhattan, about six months after federal agents raided his Los Angeles and Miami mansions as part of the investigation.

The hip-hop mogul now faces a number of charges, including conspiracy to commit organized crime, sex trafficking and transporting persons for the purpose of prostitution, according to a three-count indictment unsealed early Tuesday. The controversial music mogul is also expected to appear before a federal judge in Manhattan to face those charges, according to reports.

The mogul “for decades abused, threatened and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation and conceal his behavior,” the indictment states.

“To do so, Combs relied on the people, resources and influence of the multifaceted business empire he ran and controlled, creating a criminal enterprise whose members and associates engaged in or attempted to engage in sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice, among other things.”

Combs, 54, was staying at the Park Hyatt hotel in Midtown Manhattan when he was taken into custody and is currently being held at an FBI field office.

Just hours before his arrest on Monday, Combs was seen walking with his son, Christian “King” Combs, in New York City.

His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, said Combs voluntarily traveled to the city for his arrest, but sharply criticized the situation, calling it an “unjustified prosecution.”

Combs' arrest follows a series of lawsuits filed against him over the past year by people claiming he physically or sexually abused them during his prime years as a producer in the 1990s and 2000s.

Long criminal record

The first allegations against Combs emerged last November in a federal court lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie Ventura, who accused him of a long-running series of domestic and sexual violence, including human trafficking.

Although the case was quickly settled out of court, a series of other sexual assault lawsuits followed, which Combs vigorously denied.

Combs had previously suggested that the plaintiffs were only interested in “quick money.”

His lawyer said the rapper was “disappointed” with the latest charges.

“Sean 'Diddy' Combs is a music icon, a self-made entrepreneur, a loving family man and a proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children and advocating for the advancement of the black community,” Agnifilo said in response to Combs' arrest.

“He is not a perfect person, but he is not a criminal. To Mr. Combs' credit, he has cooperated fully with this investigation and voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges,” he continued.

“Please reserve judgment until you have all the facts. These are the actions of an innocent man who has nothing to hide and he looks forward to clearing his name in court.”
