Juventus vs PSV prediction: Champions League odds, tips

Juventus is having one of the most bizarre starts to a football season you have ever seen.

The Old Lady has two wins and two draws from their first four games, but when you look at the goal difference, things get weird. Juve have scored six goals and conceded none, meaning they have already played two 0-0 draws and have a total of 5.3 expected goals (xGF + xGA) in their four games.

Thiago Motta's team takes the low-event genre to a whole new level.

We will see if Juventus brings that identity into their Champions League opener against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday.

Prediction for Juventus vs PSV

What makes Juve's crazy start to the season even more exciting is the fact that they have been outplayed in their first two games.

The Old Lady defeated Como 3-0 in their opening match and overwhelmed Hellas Veronas by the same result a week later.

However, the match against Roma ended abruptly with a boring 0-0 draw, and things were no more exciting against Empoli on Saturday either.

Juventus have only scored 1.4 expected goals in their last two games and have only conceded 0.8, so they are definitely doing a lot of things right in their own half of the pitch.

Eindhoven, on the other hand, have had a very different start in the Eredivisie. Although it is a much weaker league compared to Serie A, winning their first five games by an aggregate score of 20-3 is nothing short of impressive.

Like many other clubs that have been successful in the Netherlands, Eindhoven want to bring speed and chaos to the game and ensure that it is always moving. This is not the way Juve want to play its games.

This contrast in styles should lead to a really interesting competition.

Juve's defensive work under Thiago Motta could see them advance to the Champions League, but given their current weak offense, it's hard to bet on them.

While Eindhoven ticks many of the boxes you'd expect from a clear underdog in the Champions League, the quality of the opposition they've faced in the Eredivisie leaves a lot to be desired.

Add to that the fact that this type of stylistic clash – where two very different philosophies collide – often begins with a feeling-out process, and all the ingredients are there for a very ugly first half.
