When Amitabh Bachchan “couldn’t sleep for two nights” after Aishwarya Rai’s accident: “She suffered…”

In 2003, during the shooting of Rajkumar Santoshi's Khakee starring Aishwarya Rai, Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar, a horrific accident involving Aishwarya occurred near Nashik, which left the entire cast and crew shaken. A stuntman lost control, drove too fast and skidded, causing the car to crash into Aishwarya's chair. Aishwarya and her co-star Tushar Kapoor could not move fast enough and were caught off guard by the speeding vehicle. The situation was so critical that Akshay Kumar had to intervene, pull the car away and free Aishwarya, who was then rushed to the hospital.

Amitabh Bachchan, who later became Aishwarya's father-in-law after she married his son Abhishek, was deeply shaken by the media's portrayal of her accident. The press downplayed her injury and called it trivial, which touched Bachchan deeply. During a conversation with Rediff, Amitabh opened up about the incident, speaking about the gravity of the situation and expressing his concern for Aishwarya's well-being during this traumatic event.

“I asked Aishwarya's mother if she wanted to take her daughter back to Mumbai. We arranged for Anil Ambani's private plane. Since there is no facility to land at night in Nashik, we had to get permission from Delhi to land the plane at the military base, which is 45 minutes away from the hospital. The seats had to be removed from the plane. And everyone is dismissing it as a minor incident that is being blown out of proportion,” an angry Amitabh Bachchan had lamented.

He also spoke about how deeply the accident and Aishwarya's injuries had affected him. “I couldn't sleep for two nights. I had to watch it! Her back was torn apart by cactus thorns. The bone at the back of her foot is broken. She suffered severe cuts. And her injury was classified as minor,” said Amitabh Bachchan.

Aishwarya Rai married Abhishek Bachchan on April 20, 2007, in a grand ceremony and became the 'Bachchan Bahu'. Aishwarya and Abhishek have a daughter named Aaradhya Bachchan. For some time now, Aishwarya Rai has been spotted alone or with her daughter. This has led to rumours that Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are about to get divorced. Neither Aishwarya nor Abhishek have commented on the matter. The Bachchan family has also not made any official comments on the matter.
