Horry man allegedly shot people in the Myrtle Beach area | News from Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH — A Horry County man faces more than a dozen charges after he shot two people, barricaded himself in a home and opened fire on police, according to public records.

On September 13, the state Law Enforcement Division charged 60-year-old Neil Brown with first-degree burglary, aggravated domestic violence, four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of discharging a firearm into an inhabited dwelling, four counts of pointing and displaying a firearm, aggravated public disturbance and two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Shortly after 9 p.m. on Sept. 12, Brown illegally entered a home on South Reindeer Road in the Myrtle Beach area after arguing on the phone with one of the victims, according to an arrest warrant affidavit filed by SLED Special Agent in Charge Bradley Thompson.

Armed with two handguns, Brown encountered one of the victims and began arguing, the affidavit states. The victim and another person from the home walked toward another home along the street while Brown pursued them.

During the pursuit, Brown began shooting, according to the affidavit.

As the two victims ran into a house, he shot the front door four times, police said. Both victims suffered gunshot wounds that required extensive emergency medical care.

A former SC cop won't face charges for running over a woman on the beach. Here's why.

According to police, Brown returned to the first house and barricaded himself inside.

“While inside, Brown fired his weapon multiple times,” the affidavit states. “Due to Brown's reckless discharge of firearms, with no regard for the safety of innocent citizens nearby, Horry County Police evacuated many residences in the community, resulting in mass chaos.”

According to police reports, HCPD officers confronted Brown at around 9:51 p.m. while he was in the backyard of the house, waving his firearms.
