According to Rio Ferdinand, it will be difficult for Arsenal to keep standard coach Nicolas Jover.

The Gunners' set-piece guru was credited with playing a key role in Sunday's victory over Tottenham in the north London derby after the only goal in a close game came through another well-rehearsed routine.

Jover first built his reputation as an expert in dead ball training at Brentford before gaining even greater prominence at Manchester City, who signed him on the recommendation of Mikel Arteta.

The Arsenal manager pulled off a major coup when he convinced the German-born Frenchman to move to north London, and his impact on Arsenal was notable both in attack and defence.

Gabriel Magalhaes' header from Bukayo Saka's skilful cross was the 17th goal Arsenal have scored from a corner since the start of last season and the 42nd goal from a set piece since Jover was poached from City three years ago.

And even though Ferdinand is an expert in his field, he believes it won't be long before the 42-year-old has bigger ambitions and wants to take on more responsibility.

“I used to hate standing around in the cold during set pieces,” the Manchester United legend told “Rio Ferdinand Presents.”

“That's the worst thing, nobody enjoys it. The difference at Arsenal will be that they now see the benefits and are licking their lips.

“They're going to do it, show us another set piece, show us something new. This guy is going to walk around like he's the Don.”

“If he's not a manager in three years, I'll be surprised. I bet he'll be a manager somewhere at some point.”

Arteta, meanwhile, praised Jover after his team secured their third consecutive win at Tottenham Stadium.

He said: “In his field, in other areas, as a person, because of the relationship we have, I made the decision to bring him to City when I was there and then to Arsenal.”

“He and the staff have instilled in the players the belief that there are many ways to win football games and that this is a really powerful way.”

“He gave us a lot, so a big compliment to all of them.”
