Dozens killed and injured in Israeli air strikes on refugee camps in Gaza Strip

GAZA CITY, Palestine

Israeli air strikes on the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip killed or injured numerous people early Tuesday, the Civil Defense Service said.

Israeli warplanes bombed several houses on the east side of the camp where dozens of people were staying, it said.

“It is estimated that more than 50 people were in these houses during the Israeli attack,” the statement continued.

The service said four people, including a child, had been rescued so far, while dozens more people were lying under the rubble of their destroyed homes.

Witnesses reported that Israeli drones and military vehicles opened fire on ambulances and civil defense teams as they tried to approach the area to help the victims.

“The situation in the area attacked by the Israeli army is catastrophic, as there are still numerous victims under the rubble,” an eyewitness told Anadolu.

“This is a new massacre committed by the Israeli army, which destroyed three houses in the area,” he added.

Israel has continued its brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip following an attack by the Palestinian Hamas on October 7 last year, despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.

According to local health authorities, more than 41,200 people, mostly women and children, have been killed and over 95,400 injured since then.

The Israeli attack displaced almost the entire population of the area, and the ongoing blockade led to severe shortages of food, clean water and medicine.

Israel is accused of genocide before the International Court of Justice for its actions in the Gaza Strip.
