Thomas Frank gives update on Brentford future after Pep Guardiola's job prediction brings new job

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank says he is “flattered” that Pep Guardiola is backing him in a big move.

The Manchester City head coach had high praise for the Dane after City beat the Bees 2-1 on Saturday, with Erling Haaland scoring a brace following an early header from Yoane Wissa.

Guardiola believes it is only a “matter of time” before one of Europe's best players arrives in the form of Frank, who established Brentford as a Premier League club following their promotion in 2021.

Standard Sport According to reports, Bayern Munich considered changing the Brentford coach before signing Vincent Kompany, while links to Manchester United were already in play.

However, ahead of the Carabao Cup match against Leyton Orient on Tuesday evening, Frank stressed that he is not yet thinking about his next step.

“He is a very smart man, Pep Guardiola,” joked Frank at the press conference on Monday.

“No, of course, when you play against City – they are the best team in the world, I think a lot of people have said that.

“Guardiola is probably the best coach in the world, now and maybe even of all time. So he definitely knows something: he knows football. He knows what he's talking about, so he must be very clever.

“All joking aside, he knows football. Of course it's flattering because we played well. The most important thing is that he always shows his class no matter what happens. Whether he wins, draws or loses. I know he wins most of his games, but I think that's a good quality.”

When asked about a possible change, Frank replied: “It's better to be praised than not, but other than that: no.”
