8-year-old takes car and drives to Target alone on Sunday morning

According to Bedford police, an 8-year-old girl was tracked down at a Target store Sunday morning after she got into a car and drove away from home.

Officers were dispatched to Greencroft Road in Bedford on Sunday morning after the girl and a 2020 Nissan Rogue were reported missing. Family members at the home said she was last seen around 7 a.m., police said.

Neighbors took footage via Ring Doorbell showing the child getting into the car around 7 a.m. and driving away alone, police said.

Bedford Heights police received a call about a young child on Rockside Road driving a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle reported missing, but police said they were unable to locate the vehicle. Flock cameras then captured the girl on Pettibone Road in Bainbridge, police said.

Bainbridge police found the vehicle at an area Target and were told to look for the 8-year-old, who was then inside the store, police said.

According to Google Maps, the average drive from Greencroft Road to Target takes about 25 minutes.

Family members picked up the 8-year-old and the vehicle from Target, police said. The child told police she had hit a mailbox during her trip.
