Bad news for football talent!

Berkin Arslanogullari has dreamed of becoming a professional footballer since he was a child. But this dream has been shattered in a brutal way. The 19-year-old even had to have a leg amputated.

Amputation prevents progression of the disease

A few months ago, Berkin Arslanogullari received a shocking diagnosis, according to his club Union Berlin: bone cancer. For the 19-year-old, who trained with the pros for the first time last season, this was the beginning of the hardest battle of his young life. But “despite all attempts and intensive chemotherapy,” he was unable to beat the cancer, the Bundesliga club continued. Quite the opposite. It gets much worse: A few days ago, the young talent had to have his left lower leg amputated. This is the only way to prevent the disease from progressing.

Family needs financial support after cancer shock

The amputation is an absolute horror scenario – and another huge challenge for Arslanogullari and his parents. Because of the care that their son needs, they can no longer work. They are dependent on support, because they urgently need money for the treatment and rehabilitation. For this reason, a friend of the family has launched a fundraising campaign.

“A new apartment or extensive renovation work and the upcoming rehabilitation are urgently needed for a new start in a new life and cause enormous costs,” it says on the donation page. In order to “ease the financial burden a little and give Berkin the best possible chance for a future full of hope,” every contribution is important.

1. FC Union Berlin and the “UNION VEREINT. Shoulder to Shoulder” foundation have already participated. Thanks to more than a thousand donations, 61,489 euros have already been raised as of Monday evening (September 16, 7:32 p.m.). 61,489 euros that at least give Berkin and his family some hope. You can find the fundraising campaign here.
